TAF13

Description

The TAF13 (TATA-box binding protein associated factor 13) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

TAF13, encoded by the TAF13 gene, is a protein involved in transcription initiation. It is a subunit of the TFIID complex, which plays a central role in RNA polymerase II-dependent transcription. TFIID binds to promoters, positions the polymerase, and serves as a scaffold for assembling the transcription complex. TAF13 interacts with TBP, TAF10, and TAF11, suggesting it plays a role in coordinating these activities within the TFIID complex. A pseudogene for TAF13 is found on chromosome 6.

The TFIID complex is crucial for initiating RNA polymerase II-dependent transcription. It binds to promoters through its TBP subunit and assembles the pre-initiation complex. TAF13, along with TAF11 and TBP, plays a key role in this promoter binding process by interacting with both TFIID and TFIIA transcription factor complexes.

TAF13 is also known as MRT60, TAF(II)18, TAF2K, TAFII-18, TAFII18.
