STRC : stereocilin
Description
The STRC (stereocilin) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.
The STRC gene provides instructions for creating a protein called stereocilin, located in the inner ear and essential for hearing. Stereocilin is associated with stereocilia, hair-like structures projecting from specialized hair cells in the inner ear. It links the tips of adjacent stereocilia, enabling them to function properly in sound amplification and frequency detection.
STRC is also known as DFNB16.
