SPARC
Description
The SPARC (secreted protein acidic and cysteine rich) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.
SPARC (Scalable Processor ARChitecture) is a RISC instruction set architecture developed by Sun Microsystems. It was inspired by the Berkeley RISC system and became one of the most successful early commercial RISC systems, influencing many other RISC designs. The first implementation, SPARC V7, was used in Sun's Sun-4 systems, replacing the Motorola 68000-based Sun-3 systems. Subsequent versions, like SPARC V8 (SuperSPARC) and SPARC V9 (UltraSPARC), introduced improvements and 64-bit architecture. SPARC processors were widely used in servers produced by Sun, Solbourne, and Fujitsu. SPARC International was formed in 1989 to manage the architecture, licensing, trademarks, and conformance testing. The organization licensed SPARC to various manufacturers, including Atmel, Bipolar Integrated Technology, Cypress Semiconductor, Fujitsu, Matsushita, and Texas Instruments.
