SLITRK6 : SLIT and NTRK like family member 6

Description

The SLITRK6 (SLIT and NTRK like family member 6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 13.

The SLITRK6 gene produces a protein primarily found in the inner ear and eye. This protein supports the growth and survival of auditory neurons in the inner ear, transmitting sound signals. It also regulates eye growth after birth, influencing the eyeball's length (axial length) and determining whether a person has nearsightedness, farsightedness, or normal vision. The SLITRK6 protein spans the cell membrane, anchoring it for proper function.

SLITRK6 is also known as DFNMYP.
