SLC35A1

Description

The SLC35A1 (solute carrier family 35 member A1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

CMP-sialic acid transporter is a protein that in humans is encoded by the SLC35A1 gene.

This protein transports CMP-sialic acid from the cytosol into the Golgi apparatus. It acts as an antiporter, exchanging CMP-sialic acid for CMP. The protein has a higher affinity for free CMP than CMP-sialic acid and can also exchange CMP-sialic acid for AMP and UMP. It has been shown to mediate the transport of CDP-ribitol.

SLC35A1 is also known as CDG2F, CMPST, CST, hCST.
