SLC34A2 : solute carrier family 34 member 2

Description

The SLC34A2 (solute carrier family 34 member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

The SLC34A2 gene provides instructions for making a protein called the type IIb sodium-phosphate cotransporter, which is primarily located in the alveolar type II cells of the lungs. These cells produce and recycle surfactant, a mixture of phospholipids and proteins that lines the lung tissue. The type IIb sodium-phosphate cotransporter plays a role in phosphate homeostasis by helping to clear phosphate released during surfactant recycling.

Actively transports phosphate into cells by cotransporting it with sodium ions.

SLC34A2 is also known as NAPI-3B, NAPI-IIb, NPTIIb, NaPi2b, PULAM.
