SLC30A9

Description

The SLC30A9 (solute carrier family 30 member 9) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

SLC30A9 is a mitochondrial proton-coupled zinc ion antiporter that mediates the export of zinc from mitochondria. It plays a crucial role in maintaining zinc homeostasis and mobilization, as well as influencing mitochondrial morphology and health. Within the nucleus, SLC30A9 acts as a secondary coactivator for nuclear receptors, collaborating with p160 coactivator subtypes. It participates in the transcriptional activation of Wnt-responsive genes. These functions have been supported by various studies (PubMed:28334855, PubMed:34397090, PubMed:34433664, PubMed:35614220).

SLC30A9 is also known as BILAPES, C4orf1, GAC63, HUEL, ZNT9.
