SLC2A2

Description

The SLC2A2 gene, also known as GLUT2, encodes a protein responsible for transporting glucose across cell membranes. This protein plays a crucial role in glucose homeostasis, particularly in the liver, pancreas, and intestines. GLUT2 facilitates glucose uptake from the bloodstream into these organs, enabling proper glucose utilization and storage. It also contributes to insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells, regulating blood sugar levels.

Associated Diseases

Did you know?

GLUT2 has a unique characteristic: its transport activity is not saturated even at high glucose concentrations. This allows for efficient glucose uptake in organs that handle large amounts of glucose, like the liver.
