Description
The SERPINE1 gene encodes plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1), a crucial protein involved in regulating coagulation and fibrinolysis. PAI-1 inhibits the activity of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) and urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA), preventing the breakdown of fibrin clots and promoting thrombus formation. SERPINE1 plays a critical role in maintaining hemostasis and wound healing, but its dysregulation can contribute to various cardiovascular and thrombotic disorders.
