SBF1

Description

The SBF1 (SET binding factor 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 22.

Myotubularin-related protein 5 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the SBF1 gene.

== Interactions == SBF1 has been shown to interact with MTMR2 and SUV39H1.

SBF1 acts as an adapter protein for the phosphatase MTMR2, regulating its catalytic activity and subcellular localization. It can also function as a guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF), activating RAB28 by promoting the exchange of GDP to GTP, converting inactive GDP-bound Rab proteins into their active GTP-bound form. SBF1 inhibits myoblast differentiation in vitro and induces oncogenic transformation in fibroblasts.

SBF1 is also known as CMT4B3, DENND7A, MTMR5.
