RNASEH2A : ribonuclease H2 subunit A

Description

The RNASEH2A (ribonuclease H2 subunit A) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

The RNASEH2A gene provides instructions for making the RNase H2A subunit, which is part of the RNase H2 complex. This complex is a ribonuclease, an enzyme that breaks down RNA molecules. Specifically, it breaks down RNA-DNA hybrids, which are formed during DNA replication and are present in all cells. The RNase H2 complex also participates in DNA replication, error repair, and other cellular processes, including preventing inappropriate immune system activation.

RNASEH2A is the catalytic subunit of RNase HII, an enzyme that specifically breaks down RNA in RNA:DNA hybrids. It plays a role in DNA replication, potentially by removing RNA primers from lagging-strand Okazaki fragments during replication. It also removes single ribonucleotides from DNA:RNA duplexes.

RNASEH2A is also known as AGS4, JUNB, RNASEHI, RNHIA, RNHL.
