RET

The RET gene builds a protein involved in cell signaling pathways critical for development and cell growth control. This protein acts like a cellular messenger, normally relaying signals that instruct cells to grow, differentiate, and mature. Mutations in the RET gene can lead to the production of a constantly active RET protein, promoting uncontrolled cell growth and potentially contributing to cancer development.
