RBP3
Description
The RBP3 (retinol binding protein 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 10.
RBP3, also known as IRBP, is a protein involved in the visual process. It binds retinoids and is primarily found in the interphotoreceptor matrix of the retina. Its main function is to transport retinoids between the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and the photoreceptor cells. RBP3 is encoded by the RBP3 gene, which is about 9.5 kbp long and has four exons. The protein is glycosylated and has a molecular weight of 135,000 Da. The amino acid sequence of RBP3 is divided into four homology domains, suggesting multiple gene duplication events.
RBP3 is also known as D10S64, D10S65, D10S66, IRBP, RBPI, RP66.
