Description
The PTPRF (protein tyrosine phosphatase receptor type F) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.
PTPRF, encoded by the PTPRF gene, is a receptor-type protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) involved in various cellular processes, including cell growth, differentiation, and oncogenic transformation. It possesses an extracellular region containing three Ig-like domains and nine non-Ig-like domains similar to neural cell adhesion molecules. PTPRF regulates epithelial cell-cell contacts at adherens junctions and controls beta-catenin signaling. Increased expression of PTPRF has been observed in insulin-responsive tissue of obese, insulin-resistant individuals, suggesting a potential role in insulin resistance pathogenesis. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants of PTPRF have been reported, encoding distinct proteins. PTPRF interacts with Beta-catenin and liprin-alpha-1.
