PSMB10

Description

The PSMB10 (proteasome 20S subunit beta 10) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 16.

PSMB10, also known as proteasome subunit beta type-10 or 20S proteasome subunit beta-2i, is a protein encoded by the PSMB10 gene in humans. It plays a crucial role in the immune system as part of the immunoproteasome, which is formed in response to infections. This specialized proteasome contains inducible beta subunits, including PSMB10, that replace constitutive subunits. These inducible subunits have specific cleavage properties, aiding in the generation of peptides required for MHC class I antigen presentation. The immunoproteasome is also involved in modulating NFκB signaling. PSMB10 is a member of the proteasome B-type family, also known as the T1B family. Its expression is induced by gamma interferon. The gene for PSMB10 has 8 exons and is located on chromosome 16q22.1. The protein is 25 kDa in size, composed of 234 amino acids, and has a theoretical pI of 6.07. It is one of 17 subunits essential for the assembly of the 20S proteasome complex.

PSMB10 is also known as IMD121, LMP10, MECL1, PRAAS5, beta2i.
