PPCS

Description

The PPCS (phosphopantothenoylcysteine synthetase) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

PPCS refers to Phosphopantothenate--cysteine ligase, also known as Phosphopantothenoylcysteine synthetase.

PPCS catalyzes the second step in the biosynthesis of coenzyme A from vitamin B5, where cysteine is conjugated to 4'-phosphopantothenate to form 4-phosphopantothenoylcysteine. It prefers ATP over CTP as a cosubstrate.

PPCS is also known as CMD2C.
