Description
The POR (cytochrome p450 oxidoreductase) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.
POR is responsible for producing cytochrome P450 oxidoreductase, an enzyme vital for the proper functioning of over 50 cytochrome P450 enzymes. Cytochrome P450 enzymes play a crucial role in the creation and breakdown of various molecules and chemicals within cells. These enzymes are essential for the synthesis of cholesterol and steroid hormones, both crucial for normal development and reproduction. Additionally, they participate in the metabolism of ingested substances, including medications, in the liver. Variations in the POR gene may impact an individual's response to certain drugs.
