PNLDC1

Description

The PNLDC1 (PARN like ribonuclease domain containing exonuclease 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

PNLDC1 is a 3'-exoribonuclease that preferentially degrades poly(A) tails of mRNAs, often acting as the first step in eukaryotic mRNA decay. This degradation also plays a role in silencing certain maternal mRNAs during oocyte maturation and early embryonic development. PNLDC1 may also act as a regulator of multipotency in embryonic stem cells. In addition, it's a critical factor for proper spermatogenesis, involved in processing pre-piRNAs to generate mature piRNAs.

PNLDC1 is also known as HsPNLDC1, SPGF57, Trimmer.
