PLD1

Description

The PLD1 gene, located on chromosome 11, encodes for phospholipase D1, a crucial enzyme involved in cell signaling. PLD1 catalyzes the hydrolysis of phosphatidylcholine, a major membrane phospholipid, to produce phosphatidic acid (PA). PA acts as a second messenger, participating in diverse cellular processes such as membrane trafficking, cytoskeletal organization, and cell growth. Its activity is regulated by various factors, including G-proteins, protein kinases, and phosphoinositides.
