PLCD1

Description

The PLCD1 gene, located on chromosome 11, encodes for phospholipase C delta 1 (PLD1), a critical enzyme involved in cellular signaling pathways. PLD1 catalyzes the hydrolysis of phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PIP2) into diacylglycerol (DAG) and inositol trisphosphate (IP3). These second messengers play pivotal roles in various cellular processes, including cell growth, differentiation, migration, and apoptosis. PLD1 is also implicated in the regulation of intracellular calcium levels and the activation of protein kinase C (PKC). Dysregulation of PLD1 activity has been linked to a spectrum of human diseases, highlighting its importance in maintaining cellular homeostasis.
