PLCB3
Description
The PLCB3 (phospholipase C beta 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.
PLCB3 is a human gene that encodes the enzyme phospholipase C β3. This enzyme catalyzes the formation of inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate and diacylglycerol from phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate, using calcium as a cofactor. This reaction is essential for intracellular signaling pathways, activated by G-protein alpha subunits (alpha-q and alpha-11) as well as G-beta gamma subunits. PLCB3 has been shown to interact with Sodium-hydrogen exchange regulatory cofactor 2.
PLCB3, a phosphatidylinositol-specific phospholipase C enzyme, catalyzes the production of important signaling molecules, diacylglycerol (DAG) and inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP3).
PLCB3 is also known as SMDCD.
