PIGF

Description

The PIGF (phosphatidylinositol glycan anchor biosynthesis class F) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

Phosphatidylinositol-glycan biosynthesis class F protein (PIGF) is a protein encoded by the PIGF gene in humans. It plays a crucial role in the biosynthesis of glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchors. GPI anchors are glycolipids with three mannose molecules in their core structure. They are found on many blood cells and serve to anchor proteins to the cell surface. PIGF, in collaboration with another GPI synthesis protein, PIGO, facilitates the transfer of ethanolaminephosphate (EtNP) to the third mannose in the GPI anchor. This gene has at least two alternatively spliced transcripts that encode distinct isoforms.

PIGF is also known as OORS.
