PDP1 : pyruvate dehydrogenase phosphatase catalytic subunit 1

Description

The PDP1 (pyruvate dehydrogenase phosphatase catalytic subunit 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 8.

The PDP1 gene provides instructions for creating a protein called pyruvate dehydrogenase phosphatase 1, which is part of the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex. This protein activates the complex by removing a phosphate group, thereby enabling the conversion of pyruvate (derived from carbohydrate breakdown) into acetyl-CoA. This process is essential for the chain of reactions that produces ATP, the primary energy source for cells.

PDP1 is also known as PDH, PDP, PDPC, PDPC 1, PPM2A, PPM2C.
