OTOG

Description

The OTOG (otogelin) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

Otogelin is a glycoprotein specifically found in acellular membranes within the inner ear. It is believed to play a critical role in anchoring the otoconial membranes and cupulae to the underlying neuroepithelium in the vestibule. Additionally, it may be involved in the organization and stabilization of the fibrillar network that forms the tectorial membrane in the cochlea. There is evidence suggesting that Otogelin may contribute to mechanotransduction processes, the conversion of mechanical stimuli into electrical signals.

OTOG is also known as DFNB18B, MLEMP, OTGN.
