NSMCE3

Description

The NSMCE3 (NSE3 homolog, SMC5-SMC6 complex component) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

NSMCE3 is part of the SMC5-SMC6 complex, which plays a vital role in repairing broken DNA strands using homologous recombination. This complex contributes to sister chromatid homologous recombination by attracting the SMC1-SMC3 cohesin complex to the broken DNA strands. It's essential for maintaining telomeres through recombination in ALT cell lines and controls the addition of SUMO proteins to the shelterin complex. This modification is thought to cause the disassembly of the shelterin complex within ALT-associated PML bodies (APBs). In laboratory settings, NSMCE3 enhances the ubiquitin ligase activity of NSMCE1. It is believed to function by recruiting and/or stabilizing the Ubl-conjugating enzyme (E2) at the E3:substrate complex. NSMCE3 might act as a growth suppressor by promoting cell cycle arrest.

NSMCE3 is also known as HCA4, LICS, MAGEG1, MAGEL3, NDNL2, NSE3.
