NEK8


Description

The NEK8 (NIMA related kinase 8) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

NEK8 is an enzyme that plays a role in cell division and is associated with kidney disease. It belongs to a family of kinases related to NIMA (never in mitosis, gene A) from the fungus Aspergillus nidulans. Mutations in the NEK8 gene have been linked to nephronophthisis, a kidney disorder.

NEK8 is also known as JCK, NEK12A, NPHP9, RHPD2.
