NBEAL2 : neurobeachin like 2

Description

The NBEAL2 (neurobeachin like 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

The NBEAL2 gene provides instructions for creating a protein whose exact function is unknown. This protein appears crucial for normal platelet development. Platelets, small blood cells essential for blood clotting, are produced in bone marrow. NBEAL2 is thought to be involved in the formation of alpha-granules within megakaryocytes, the precursor cells of platelets. Alpha-granules, the most abundant platelet components, contain growth factors and other proteins vital for blood clotting and wound healing. These proteins help platelets stick together to form a plug that seals damaged blood vessels, preventing further blood loss.

NBEAL2 is also known as BDPLT4, GPS.
