MYO6

Description

The MYO6 gene provides instructions for making a protein called myosin VI. This protein is a motor protein, meaning it uses energy to move along cellular structures. Myosin VI is particularly important for the movement of vesicles, small sacs that transport substances within cells. It also plays a role in the organization of the cytoskeleton, the network of fibers that gives cells their shape and structure.

Myosin VI is unique among myosins because it moves towards the minus end of actin filaments, unlike most other myosins which move towards the plus end.
