MRTFA

Description

The MRTFA (myocardin related transcription factor A) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 22.

MRTFA, also known as Myocardin-related transcription factor A, plays a crucial role in regulating gene expression related to the cytoskeleton, particularly during development, morphogenesis, and cell migration. It forms a complex with the serum response factor (SRF) and acts as a coactivator. The activity of this complex is tightly linked to changes in cellular globular actin (G-actin) levels, responding to signals from Rho GTPases. MRTFA directly binds G-actin through its RPEL repeats, influencing the complex's activity. Additionally, MRTFA's activity is also modulated by filamentous actin (F-actin) present within the nucleus.

MRTFA is also known as BSAC, MAL, MKL, MKL1, MRTF-A.
