MRPS7

Description

The MRPS7 (mitochondrial ribosomal protein S7) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

MRPS7 gene encodes 28S ribosomal protein S7, mitochondrial, a protein involved in protein synthesis within the mitochondrion. It's part of the small subunit (28S) of the mitochondrial ribosome (mitoribosome). The mitoribosome is composed of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit, with a protein-to-rRNA ratio of roughly 75%. MRPS7's function is analogous to a prokaryotic ribosomal protein essential for organizing the 3' domain of the 16S rRNA near the P- and A-sites. This gene has pseudogenes located on chromosomes 8p and 12p.

MRPS7 is also known as COXPD34, MRP-S, MRP-S7, RP-S7, RPMS7, S7mt, bMRP27a, uS7m.
