MRPS2

Description

The MRPS2 (mitochondrial ribosomal protein S2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

MRPS2, also known as uS2m, is a protein encoded by the MRPS2 gene in humans. It is a component of the mitochondrial ribosome (mitoribosome), specifically the small 28S subunit. Mammalian mitoribosomes are involved in protein synthesis within mitochondria and differ from prokaryotic ribosomes in their composition and structure. This gene encodes a protein belonging to the ribosomal protein S2 family. Alternative splicing can generate different transcript variants of this gene.

MRPS2 is also known as CGI-91, COXPD36, MRP-S2, S2mt, uS2m.
