MIEF2

Description

The MIEF2 (mitochondrial elongation factor 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

MIEF2 is a mitochondrial outer membrane protein that plays a role in regulating mitochondrial organization. It is essential for mitochondrial fission and facilitates the recruitment and interaction of dynamin-related protein 1 (DNM1L), a fission mediator, to the mitochondrial surface, independent of the FIS1 and MFF proteins involved in mitochondrial fission. MIEF2 regulates the GTPase activity of DNM1L.

MIEF2 is also known as COXPD49, D3B, MID49, SMCR7.
