MICOS13

Description

The MICOS13 (mitochondrial contact site and cristae organizing system subunit 13) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

MICOS13, also known as protein P117, is a crucial component of the MICOS complex, a large protein assembly located within the inner membrane of mitochondria. The MICOS complex plays a vital role in maintaining the structure and function of mitochondria, particularly in the formation of crista junctions, which are essential for proper mitochondrial respiration. MICOS13 is specifically involved in the formation and maintenance of these crista junctions, contributing to the overall morphology of the cristae. Additionally, MICOS13 is required for the incorporation of another protein, MICOS10, into the MICOS complex, further highlighting its role in complex assembly and function.

MICOS13 is also known as C19orf70, MIC12, MIC13, P117, QIL1.
