MASP2

Description

The MASP2 (MBL associated serine protease 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

The term MASP2 refers to the human gene encoding for mannan-binding lectin serine protease 2.

MASP2 is a serum protease that plays a crucial role in activating the complement system through mannose-binding lectin (MBL). It undergoes auto-catalytic cleavage to become active and then cleaves complement proteins C2 and C4. This cleavage activates C2 and C4, leading to the formation of C3 convertase, a key enzyme in the complement cascade.

MASP2 is also known as MAP-2, MAP19, MASP-2, MASP1P1, sMAP.
