MAN2B1 : mannosidase alpha class 2B member 1

Description

The MAN2B1 (mannosidase alpha class 2B member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

The MAN2B1 gene provides instructions for making the enzyme alpha-mannosidase. This enzyme functions within lysosomes, which are compartments responsible for digesting and recycling cellular materials. Alpha-mannosidase plays a role in breaking down complex sugar molecules (oligosaccharides) attached to specific proteins (glycoproteins) within lysosomes. Specifically, it helps break down oligosaccharides that contain a sugar molecule called mannose.

MAN2B1 is also known as LAMAN, MANB.
