LIM2
Description
The LIM2 (lens intrinsic membrane protein 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.
LIM2, the human gene encoding the lens fiber membrane intrinsic protein, is responsible for producing a protein crucial for lens function. This protein, among five major proteins found within the lens fiber cell membrane, is the second most abundant intrinsic membrane protein. It exhibits four transmembrane domains and interacts with calmodulin, suggesting its role as a junctional component potentially involved in lens cell communication. While the specific function of this protein remains unclear, its presence and properties suggest a role in maintaining lens integrity and potentially contributing to the development of cataracts.
LIM2 is also known as CTRCT19, MP17, MP19.
