Description
The KRT85 (keratin 85) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.
Keratin, type II cuticular Hb5 is a protein encoded by the KRT85 gene in humans. It belongs to the keratin gene family and is a type II hair keratin, meaning it's a basic protein that forms hair and nails by heterodimerizing with type I keratins. Type II hair keratins are clustered on chromosome 12q13 and divided into two subfamilies based on their structural similarity. One subfamily, including KRTHB1, KRTHB3, and KRTHB6, is highly related. The other, less related subfamily includes KRTHB2, KRTHB4, and KRTHB5.
