KIF20A

Description

The KIF20A (kinesin family member 20A) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.

KIF20A is a human protein encoded by the KIF20A gene. It interacts with RAB6A.

KIF20A is a mitotic kinesin crucial for cytokinesis, the process of cell division. It interacts with the chromosome passenger complex (CPC) during this stage. After phosphorylation by PLK1, KIF20A helps bring PLK1 to the central spindle, a structure essential for proper cell division. KIF20A also binds to active forms of RAB6A and RAB6B, proteins involved in intracellular transport. KIF20A acts as a motor protein, driving the movement of Golgi membranes and associated vesicles along microtubules in a retrograde direction, meaning towards the cell center. KIF20A moves towards the plus end of microtubules.

KIF20A is also known as MKLP2, RAB6KIFL, RCM6.
