ITGA8

Description

The ITGA8 (integrin subunit alpha 8) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 10.

Integrin alpha-8 is a protein produced in humans by the ITGA8 gene.

Integrin alpha-8, in combination with beta-1, plays a crucial role in kidney development and potentially other organ formation. It achieves this by controlling the movement of mesenchymal cells into epithelial structures. Recognizing the R-G-D sequence within various ligands, including TNC, FN1, SPP1, TGFB1, TGFB3, and VTN, it interacts with these molecules. While NPNT is believed to be its primary functional ligand during kidney genesis, it also acts as a neuronal receptor for TNC, facilitating cell-cell interactions and regulating the growth of nerve fibers in sensory and motor neurons.

ITGA8 is also known as -.
