INTU

Description

The INTU (inturned planar cell polarity protein) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

INTU may refer to:

INTU plays a crucial role in the formation of cilia and the overall development of the embryo. It regulates cilia formation by managing the organization of the actin cytoskeleton at the apical cell surface and ensuring the correct positioning of basal bodies. This precise placement of basal bodies is crucial for the proper orientation of growing ciliary microtubules. INTU is involved in defining cell polarity through its role in ciliogenesis but doesn't play a direct role in conversion extension. While it indirectly influences hedgehog signaling, INTU's primary function is as a core component of the CPLANE complex. This complex works to recruit peripheral IFT-A proteins to basal bodies, a key process in ciliogenesis.

INTU is also known as CPLANE4, INT, OFD17, PDZD6, PDZK6, SRTD20.
