IL21R

Description

The IL21R (interleukin 21 receptor) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 16.

The IL21R gene encodes a type I cytokine receptor that binds to interleukin 21 (IL21). This receptor forms a heterodimer with the common gamma chain (γc), which is also shared by receptors for interleukin 2, 7, and 15. IL21R plays a crucial role in T cell, B cell, and natural killer (NK) cell proliferation and differentiation by transducing the growth-promoting signal of IL21. Upon ligand binding, the receptor activates downstream signaling molecules, including JAK1, JAK3, STAT1, and STAT3. Studies in mice suggest that this gene is involved in regulating immunoglobulin production. Three alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.

This receptor binds to interleukin-21.

IL21R is also known as CD360, IMD56, NILR.
