The IL11RA (interleukin 11 receptor subunit alpha) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

IL11RA, the human gene encoding the interleukin 11 receptor alpha subunit, is part of the interleukin 11 receptor complex. Interleukin 11 is a cytokine produced by stromal cells, belonging to a family of pleiotropic and redundant cytokines that utilize the gp130 transducing subunit in their receptors. IL11RA is a member of the hematopoietic cytokine receptor family, sharing similarities with the ciliary neurotrophic factor receptor, both featuring an extracellular region with two domains: an immunoglobulin-like domain and a cytokine receptor-like domain. Alternative splicing occurs at this locus, leading to two distinct isoforms.

IL11RA is a receptor for interleukin-11 (IL11) and plays a crucial role in signaling pathways related to IL6, LIF, OSM, CNTF, IL11 and CT1. The IL11/IL11RA/IL6ST complex, formed upon IL11 binding, likely regulates the proliferation and differentiation of skeletogenic progenitor and other mesenchymal cells. IL11RA is essential for normal craniofacial bone and tooth development, and it also restricts suture fusion and tooth number.
