IGFALS

Description

The IGFALS (insulin like growth factor binding protein acid labile subunit) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 16.

IGFALS, also known as the insulin-like growth factor binding protein, acid labile subunit, is a protein encoded by the IGFALS gene. It acts as a serum protein that binds insulin-like growth factors, extending their lifespan and promoting their vascular localization. The protein, containing twenty leucine-rich repeats, is produced in response to growth hormone stimulation. Three transcript variants have been identified for this gene, leading to two distinct isoforms. Defects in the IGFALS gene can result in acid-labile subunit deficiency, characterized by delayed and slow puberty. IGFALS interacts with IGFBP3.

IGFALS is also known as ACLSD, ALS.
