IDH3A

Description

The IDH3A (isocitrate dehydrogenase (NAD(+)) 3 catalytic subunit alpha) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

IDH3A encodes the alpha subunit of the NAD(+)-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenase, an enzyme that catalyzes the oxidative decarboxylation of isocitrate to 2-oxoglutarate. This enzyme is a key component of the tricarboxylic acid cycle. IDH3A is part of a heterotetramer composed of two alpha subunits, one beta subunit, and one gamma subunit. The catalytic activity of IDH3A is essential for the overall function of the enzyme.

IDH3A is a catalytic subunit of the enzyme that converts isocitrate to alpha-ketoglutarate. Two heterodimers, one composed of IDH3A and IDH3B, and the other of IDH3A and IDH3G, exhibit some activity. However, the full activity of the enzyme requires the assembly of both heterodimers into a heterotetramer, composed of two IDH3A, one IDH3B, and one IDH3G subunits.

IDH3A is also known as RP90.
