HSF2BP

Description

The HSF2BP (heat shock transcription factor 2 binding protein) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 21.

HSF2BP is a meiotic recombination factor involved in the repair of double-strand breaks (DSBs) during meiosis. It plays a critical role in the localization of recombinases DMC1 and RAD51 to DSB sites, facilitating the process of homologous recombination. This function is mediated through HSF2BP's interaction with BRCA2 and subsequent recruitment during meiotic recombination. HSF2BP is essential for DSB repair, homologous synapsis, and crossover formation, which are critical for progression past metaphase I. Its involvement is crucial for spermatogenesis and male fertility. HSF2BP also exhibits a role in female meiosis, ensuring proper recombinase recruitment. Additionally, HSF2BP inhibits the transcriptional activity of BNC1 during spermatogenesis by sequestering it in the cytoplasm. HSF2BP may also modulate the activation of HSF2 in the testes.

HSF2BP is also known as MEILB2, POF19.
