Description

The GPSM2 (G protein signaling modulator 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

GPSM2, also known as LGN due to its 10 Leucine-Glycine-Asparagine repeats, is a protein encoded by the GPSM2 gene in humans. It belongs to a group of proteins that modulate the activation of G proteins, which are responsible for transducing extracellular signals into cellular responses. GPSM2 has been shown to interact with nuclear mitotic apparatus protein 1 (NUMA1) and GNAI2.

GPSM2 plays a crucial role in organizing the mitotic spindle poles through its interaction with NUMA1. It is essential for the recruitment of the cortical dynein-dynactin complex during metaphase, contributing to proper spindle orientation. GPSM2 also plays a significant role in asymmetric cell divisions. As a guanine nucleotide dissociation inhibitor (GDI), it regulates the activity of G(i) alpha proteins, such as GNAI1 and GNAI3.
