GLDC : glycine decarboxylase
Description
The GLDC gene provides instructions for making a protein called glycine decarboxylase. This enzyme is crucial for breaking down glycine, an amino acid, into carbon dioxide and ammonia. This process is essential for various metabolic pathways, including the production of energy and the synthesis of other molecules. Mutations in the GLDC gene can lead to a buildup of glycine in the body, resulting in a rare but serious disorder called nonketotic hyperglycinemia (NKH).
