GIPC3

Description

The GIPC3 (GIPC PDZ domain containing family member 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

GIPC3 (GAIP-interacting protein C terminus 3) is a protein encoded by the GIPC3 gene in humans. It belongs to the GIPC family, which also includes GIPC1 and GIPC2. GIPC3 features a central PDZ domain, flanked by two GIPC homology domains. Its primary function is thought to be in acoustic signal acquisition and propagation within the cochlea's hair cells. The human GIPC3 gene is located on chromosome 19, spanning about 8 kbp with six coding exons that translate into a 312 amino acid protein. The mouse Gipc3 gene resides on chromosome 10 and encodes a protein of 297 amino acids.

GIPC3 is also known as C19orf64, DFNB15, DFNB72, DFNB95.
