FAT4 : FAT atypical cadherin 4
Description
The FAT4 (FAT atypical cadherin 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.
The FAT4 gene provides instructions for making a protein found in most tissues. This protein spans the cell membrane, with parts extending both inside and outside the cell. While its exact function remains unclear, research suggests that FAT4 plays a role in determining the positions of cellular components (cell polarity). Additionally, FAT4 is believed to act as a tumor suppressor, preventing cells from growing and dividing uncontrollably.
FAT4 is a calcium-dependent cell adhesion protein that contributes to the maintenance of planar cell polarity and the inhibition of YAP1-mediated neuroprogenitor cell proliferation and differentiation.
