FANCG : FA complementation group G
Description
The FANCG gene provides instructions for making a protein involved in DNA repair. This protein is part of a complex of proteins that helps repair damaged DNA, particularly double-strand breaks. These breaks are serious and can lead to mutations that cause cancer. The FANCG gene is essential for the proper function of this complex. When the FANCG gene is mutated, the DNA repair process is disrupted, leading to an increased risk of cancer.
Associated Diseases
- Fanconi anemia (FA)
- Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS)
- Acute myeloid leukemia (AML)
- Breast cancer
- Head and neck cancer
Did you know?
Mutations in the FANCG gene are responsible for about 10% of all Fanconi anemia cases.
